Stonehenge Is the most important pre-historic monument in the British Isles and has been the subject of countless theories over the years. You will have a chance to see the famous ancient stones, take photographs and be told something of this extraordinary monument, parts of which date back over 5,000 years. It is still not known whether it was used as a temple or a astronomical calendar. Salisbury and Magna Carta Salibury Cathedral, built 800 years ago is one of the finest in Britain with spectacular architechture and the tallest spire in England at 123m (40ft). Here in the Chapter house you will see the famous magna Carta, signed at Runnymede in 1215. The City of Bath Built in a natural amphitheatre of steep hills, with its magnificent Georgian architecture, crescents, terraces and squares, Bath is certainly one of the most distinguished of British cities and in 1987 was voted a World Heratige Site. The tour will visit the fascinating hot & cold baths built by the Romans nearly 2000 years ago, at the time considered to be one of the Wonders of the World. There is ample time to explore the excellent shops, see the Abbey and Pulteney Bridge before driving home via the beautiful Avon Valley. Exclusive Torch Lit experience at the Roman Baths. Recreating the atmosphere of the baths from 2000 years ago, follow an authentic roman character and participate in a torch lighting ceremony. TIME FOR SHOPPING & LUNCH - Your guide will be happy to recommend places to eat and shop. |
